Progressive Myths About the Founding Fathers, and Hating Whitey

Not everyone admires the Founders. As a reflection of his rebranding as a “progressive,” Ed Schultz accused Glenn Beck of “Psycho Talk” for thinking well of the Founding Fathers. After Beck mentioned his appreciation of Samuel Adams, Ed lectured Beck that the Founders deserved no honor, because they were evil white men. [M]ost of these Founding Fathers that you think so highly of were … [Read more...]

Now I’m Only Going to Say This Once: The Three-Fifths Compromise

Ed Schultz closes his eyes to history. While chiding Glenn Beck for his cherishing the U.S. Constitution, MSNBC talk show host Ed Schultz repeated one of the most oft-repeated lies about the Founding Fathers: they considered blacks less than fully human. In an episode of “Psycho Talk,” Schultz blasted Beck for saying “Progressives” believe individuals are the problem, and “in Samuel Adams’ … [Read more...]

Hold On, Big Labor

This article exposes one of Obama's many paybacks to Big Labor: the appointment of Craig Becker to the National Labor Relations Board. Becker, a longtime union lawyer and lobbyist with extreme views, hit a snag when Sen. John McCain placed a hold on his nomination, the subject of this article. This February, the Senate could not pass a cloture motion to bring Becker to the floor for confirmation. … [Read more...]

Open Thread: The Anita Dunn Monster-Saint Free Association Game

One of these things is not like the other.... White House Communications Director Anita Dunn has famously named her two favorite political philosophers Mao tse-Tung and Mother Teresa. One of them was history’s greatest monster, the other its most recent living saint. The pair has nothing in common except that they both helped people meet God. So, in the spirit of Anita Dunn, what … [Read more...]

Kincaid: Fox News Fires Marc Lamont Hill

Cliff Kincaid over at Accuracy in Media (AIM) announces Fox News has fired Marc Lamont Hill. Cliff represented AIM at NewsCorp’s annual meeting. (“Accuracy in Media is a News Corp. shareholder.”) AIM reports that he asked Rupert Murdoch why someone with Hill’s radical views would have a role as a Fox News commentator: Before Kincaid completed the background for his question, News Corp. chairman … [Read more...]

A Reason for the Left to Hate MLK

Earlier I noted the reasons Martin Luther King Jr. was not a conservative. He was not a New Left street radical, either. The young MLK rejected Marxism: During the Christmas holidays of 1949 I decided to spend my spare time reading Karl Marx to try to understand the appeal of communism for many people. For the first time I carefully scrutinized Das Kapital and The Communist Manifesto. I also … [Read more...]

MLK Was No “Conservative”

As much as I hate to take issue with my colleagues here, it is hyperbolic to call Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. a “conservative.” It is true King was no New Left radical. He had little use for Malcolm X and in his “Letter from the Birmingham Jail” he famously denounced “the hatred and despair of the black nationalist.” But King’s views before his antiwar speech were left-of-center, for his day … [Read more...]

MSNBC: Opposing Obama’s Olympic Push “Rivals Jane Fonda Sitting on a Gun in North Vietnam”

See Big Ed decry conservatives's "lack of patriotism." In the misty past of ten months ago, dissent was patriotic, mass protests were a sign of passionate civic engagement, and the greatest sin any politician could commit was questioning someone’s patriotism. But that was America, B.B.O. (Before Barack Obama). Now dissent is potential incitement, middle American protesters are Swastika-carrying … [Read more...]
